How many times something happens

Chinese grammar often uses a fixed word order for certain kinds of expressions. For explaining how often an event occurs, there are two common patterns:

1. 我每個月洗衣服洗三次。
2. 我每個月洗三次衣服。
(translation: I wash my clothes three times a month).

The sentence uses the familiar structure:

[Subject] [Time] [Verb] [Object]

The how-often part follows the verb. This is clear in #2.
In #1, for this to follow the grammar, the verb must be repeated.

Examples:
1. 醫生說：天天吃飯吃三次。
2. 醫生說：天天吃三次飯。
(translation: The doctor says to eat three meals a day).
